March 2021 – Newsletter

Hello Dear Ones

And just like that, as if by magic, we have entered March and the season of unfurling vibrant life!

The shift in energy has been palpable and we can breathe a collective sigh of relief as we leave the heaviness of the last couple of months behind us.

The February Full Moon in Virgo brought some much needed nourishing energy, which helped to clear the fog and shine its lunar light on what we needed to let go of, so we can set a course for forward momentum.

March is a time for advancement and movement, a time when we look to the future without looking back.  It's an assertive month, with only one objective: explosive expression, there is no stopping the birth of new life from the deepest womb of mother earth.

By following Mother Earths example, we too can embrace the assertive and lively energy that this month brings and re-ignite our hearts to move forward with our dreams at full throttle.

Fionn sends me a reminder that it is time to put the newsletter together, deep sigh. Where am I going to find time to do this? It is 9 pm and I have just finished work. I change the bed linen – I always sleep better on clean sheets and go for a shower. This last week has been a nightmare between family problems and work, I have just wanted to run away to a sunny beach.

Then while I am in the shower the mind starts working, as it always does. I am reminded of a meditation I like doing with Lakshmi. The last time I did this I asked about lack of time and the answer was clear. There is enough time in the bank, it is what we decide to use it on that is the problem.

So for me, it is easy to make a decision to get up a little earlier, but to spend some time in the morning drinking my coffee and just waking up. I know that some may consider that a waste of time, but I like doing that, it was a conscious decision to do that. What is not conscious is when I pick up my phone and half an hour later I realise that my coffee is done and I have wasted the time looking at the news that annoys me anyway.

On Monday when I worked until 9 it was a decision I made. It is easy for me to decide to spend more time on work, but somehow I can’t do that for the other things that are important for me. Tonight I have something that I need to be online for at work, but the compromise is to spend time on workshop preparation and writing this instead of just working.

My message to you this month is to make decisions about how you spend your time. If that is to work in the evening then that is ok, but also know when to say, actually, I need some space for myself now. And then more important than anything else, accept your decision and be happy with it.

February was a tough month, mentally and emotionally. A lifelong theme was brought fully into my awareness just before the February Full Moon, as recent events played out. When I began to consider my own part to play in this situation, I had a serious AHA moment, old memories flooded in of times, where I have been the ‘happy helper’ (aka too accommodating) forgoing my own needs for sake of others and the resulting negative reactions when I began to unplug them from my energy source.

Whilst I have thought I was being compassionate and understanding, empathetic even, it was very clearly illuminated by the full moon, that I often put the needs of others ahead of my own. Which is one sure-fire way to make one feel drained both emotionally and physically.

Being the happy helper can mean that instead of checking in with ourselves to make sure we have the space to hear someone else’s problems, we accommodate them and let them unload. We also tend to be too understanding and allow people to overstep our personal boundaries, in various ways.

Self-care includes boundaries. And in my case, my inner voice was yelling at me that I needed to create space and re-establish boundaries and to rethink what I perceived to be morally the right thing to do…. during a pandemic; and to make matters even more complicated, there is the added layer of worrying about what others will think.

Being too accommodating is a left-over survival behaviour from childhood, that follows us into adult life. This programming means we are often too helpful, and we instinctively jump into being of service to help people feel at ease, sometimes before we are even asked to. We trick ourselves into thinking we are being nice, but in fact, what we need to recalibrate is our own sense of value and worth.

The cleansing winds of February and my newly acquired wisdom has left me feeling refreshed and ready to march on with renewed vim and vigour.

This month’s thought to ponder… where are we not harnessing the power of our no and creating healthy boundaries that ensure we come first?

The Owls Witchy Tip

With spring on the way do some physical and spiritual spring cleaning. Clean your sacred space, move it about to release stuck energy and then dress your altar with all things pastel and pretty.

Connect with spring by planting some flower seeds or perhaps something to eat. I have just planted sweet peas (indoors) for planting in the garden later in the year and soon I will plant my first salad leaves. These will be in pots and the cut and grow again variety.

The Wolfs Wild Tip

Go outside and soak up as much sunlight as you can! This is much needed after the long winter nights and the currently enforced lockdown restrictions.

Take time to look around you and notice the plants bursting into life. Stop and really take a look at a plant in bud. How amazing are they?

It’s a time of celebration. Do something fun.

Tarot Card of the Month

The Sun – Prisma Vision Deck
The perfect card for March. It may not always feel like it, but the sun always returns. This card invites you to allow the warmth of the sun to embrace you. If you are finding that these times are still dark for you let the sun creep into those dark cracks and just warm you up a little. Remember if you are enjoying the sun share it with others that may struggle to find it.

May your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door.

February 2021 – Newsletter

Hello Dear Ones

Welcome to our February Newsletter. We have managed to make it through January… more or less intact, maybe with a few more bumps and bruises that we would have liked!

It’s now more than halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. I can hear a few hoorays! I know I am certainly excited to see the light starting to return.

February is a transitional time, a tipping point, a time for letting go of the old, to make space for the new. You can already sense the change in the air, the evenings are getting lighter and we are starting to feel ourselves waking from our winter hibernation.

In ancient Roman times, February was known as the “Month of Purification”. February is still considered to be the month for cleansing and purging ourselves from any residual negativity. This makes February an excellent month to balance our Chakras (link in the recommendations) or consider a ritual or spell for health. It’s also a good time to eat right, get plenty of rest, stay active mentally and physically.

It's February, can you believe it? I always think that when February is gone then the rest of the year just flies by. So, what's my intention for February? To live every minute of it, to feel every minute of it, to be awake. I love waiting to see the first snowdrop, that is always the highlight of February for me.

And January? Well, it was a dismal, COVID, America, the ice. But it was also magical. Just watching the snowfall and then seeing the dog trying to navigate it once it had turned to ice. Watching the birds coming for food. And noticing the first buds on the honeysuckle. I received a delivery of seeds, they are waiting to be planted, it is exciting to think about summer and what the garden could look like.

And then the inauguration and Amanda Gorman!  If you did not see it, the link to a video of it is included below. The hill we climb was just wonderful: " For there is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it."

I don't know about you, but between Amanda Gorman and Kamala Harris, I was very proud to be a woman that day.

My message for you this month is to enjoy the returning of the light and to be the light.

Living in the UK for the last 11 years, I have come to associate February with a liminal space… it’s still winter, but not quite spring. A space where nature begins to wiggle her toes and fingers before she takes a soul-satisfying stretch and slowly starts to unfurl from the depths of her slumber.

January has been… well simply rubbish. Lockdown here in the UK has certainly been a challenge, amplified by the long winter nights, it has often felt like the walls have been closing in. But this has leant itself to tipping the situation on its head and looking for creative ways to negotiate these unusual times.

January brought with it some interesting synchronicities. While feeling into the energy for February, the word sovereignty came through and more recently it has appeared in books, Oracle Cards and at a recent Cacao Ceremony, I attended.

It felt like this word was trying to get my attention. *woohooo* I am over here. Don’t you love it when the universe winks at you…

Stepping into our sovereignty means that we are free of the illusions of being something that we are not.  It means we are complete; we are the creators of our own destiny and we give voice to our creative expression. We lay claim to our space, body, soul, mind and heart. We accept full ownership of ourself, including our shadow and are personally responsible.

Next up was a very persistent swan (you know how much I love an animal guide 😉) and very timely too, as Swans are the symbol of the Goddess Brigid, whom we honour at Imbolc. She was showing herself in oracle cards, appearing in journey’s and in various other places.

Her message is to love yourself first and know yourself. She symbolises the awakening power of self, spiritual evolution, and transformation.

The message feels very strong this month, the time is now. Time to clear out and step up. To make space, to remember who we are and reclaim our sovereignty.

Which syncs in nicely with the Oracle Card for the February, which inviting us to dive deeper into getting to know ourselves.

The Owls Witchy Tip

To plant your intentions for this year ritual:

Buy a small packet of your favourite flower seeds, find a pot that can sit on a windowsill for now. On the waxing moon fill your pot nearly to the top with soil. Now create some sacred space, breathe deeply and spend a few minutes thinking about what you want the summer and the rest of the year to hold for you. Pick a few of these plans and plant a seed for each of them. As you plant the seed name it after your intention. All the time just breathing and visualising your intentions coming true. Once you are done cover the seeds with some more soil and water it. Now water your seeds on a regular basis, tending to your intentions and watch them grow. They will be a reminder for you throughout the summer.

The Wolfs Wild Tip

Imbolc is the gateway to spring. It’s an in-between place. In Shamanism we are very interested in the in-between places. We see these as the cracks between the worlds as a powerful portal for healing.

February can be an immensely powerful time to do Journeywork, and below are some ideas on what kind of journeys you can take:

  • Journey to the lower or upper world to meet your power animal to ask for guidance for the coming year.
  • Journey to specifically tune into the energy of this time of year, for healing to clear out the old and prepare for the new.
  • Journey to the middle world, envisioning the future and putting energy into it, by seeing yourself moving through the coming year putting your plans in action.

If you have never done journey work before, here is a link to a Shamanic Journey by Sandra Ingerman who for me, is my go-to teacher on all things Shamanic. This link is suggested Shamanic Drum Music to use on your journey.

Oracle Card of the Month

Sea Turtle, Stability – Divine Animals Oracle

In the current vibes, it’s hard to feel stable, emotions are all over the place and we are feeling stuck. In February we are still in transition between Winter and Spring, it’s the in-between place… we hunger for more, but right now we have to be patient.

The Sea Turtle magic flows to us with stability and resilience. She is asking us to ride her wave of magic with ease and surety. Don’t allow yourself to feel pressured, follow the currents and hitch a ride.

She is inviting us to operate from a stable base, so instead of skimming the surface, dive deeply into study or learning your craft. Delve a bit deeper into getting to know yourself.

Let us nurture the spirit of renewal and embrace the light of the lengthening days.
